Position Objective & Purpose

Membership & Marketing Director is responsible for growing and servicing the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce member base, retains new and existing members through personal contact and evaluation of member benefits, developing campaigns to grow members, implementing membership projects, and the growth and development of the Chamber’s website marketing opportunities. 

This position is also the first point of contact for members, responding to member needs and requests. Strong written and verbal communications skills required; as well as experience in non-profit field, in planning and implementing online marketing campaigns, including social media. Must be detail and customer service oriented. Two years sales, marketing or Chamber work required, membership experience a plus.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Reports: Directly to the President/CEO
Position:  FT- Exempt – Approximately 40 hours per week


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Membership Recruitment and Retention:

•    Works with Chamber President/CEO to establish and carry out a plan of personal contact for new members.
•    Set projections for new member and marketing sales
•    Develop and implement membership plans for retention of current members and growth of new members, according to Chamber President and Board goals.
•    Coordinate, manage, track, and evaluate all membership and renewal activities, including new member, renewal, and potential member mailings.
•    Work with Chamber President to develop programs and services for members.
•    Coordinate all details of membership meetings and receptions including development of materials, securing sponsorships, working with other staff to obtain information for dissemination, and ensuring meeting logistics are handled, and attending all membership meetings.
•    Develop membership, marketing and promotional materials, including applications, welcome kits, certificates, membership cards, and other collateral, in collaboration with the Communications department
•    Recommends member surveys to increase member awareness of member needs and benefits.
•    Serve as staff coordinator of the Ambassadors for the purpose of membership retention and increasing new membership sales
•    Schedule and coordinate ribbon cuttings/ground breakings/open houses
•    Serve as liaison to Chamber Leads Groups
•    Develop and implement membership plans for retention of current members and growth of new members, according to Chamber President and Board goals.


Non-Essential Functions

•    Performs other duties that may be assigned.

Skills and Experience Required 

•    Flexible, multi-tasker who is a team player
•    Ability to apply popular computer applications including Microsoft Office , Excel and the ability to learn ChamberMaster (membership database & website system)
•    Ability and willingness to work non-conventional hours
•    Previous job-related non-profit organizations and business to business sales helpful
•    Demonstrated experience in providing excellent client service skills, listening and communications skills, both verbal and written
•    Ability to successfully work in a changing environment and multi-task
•    Ability to establish rapport and work effectively in a team environment
•    Excellent telephone etiquette, organizational and time management skills
•    Ability to use diplomacy with clients and maintain confidentiality
•    Ability to work accurately with detailed information
•    Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
