Bedford Get Together on October 13
 
October 5, 2018 – BEDFORD, VA The 2nd Annual Bedford Get Together, on Saturday, October 13, 11 am-4 pm at Edmund Street Park in Bedford, will be a celebration of the community’s shared values.  In addition to a main stage, headlined by Jonathan Hayden (aka DJ Showtime), a wide variety of activities for kids and adults will be offered throughout the day. 
 
During the Bedford Get Together, the field at Edmund Street Park will be divided into values group areas.  In each area, individuals and organizations whose mission expresses those values will be offering interactive activities for all ages.  Some highlights of what will be offered include:  COMPASSION-KINDNESS-SERVICE presentations and activities from Bedford Area Welcome Center, DePaul Community Resources, and Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living; CREATIVITY-IMAGINATION-CULTURE art projects by Bower Center for the Arts, tai chi demonstrations by Jesse Teasley, and local artist and plein air painting demonstrations; FAIRNESS-JUSTICE-EQUALITY voter registration, Bedford Chapter NAACP, and Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Social Justice Committee; FAMILY-FRIENDS-NEIGHBORS farm animals, soccer demonstrations, and bead crafts with Girl Scout Troop 2087 and 3040; HEALTH-WELLNESS-HARMONY yoga for kids and adults, Bedford YMCA drumming circle, and cooking demonstration with Chef Mike Shea; HONESTY-INTEGRITY-RESPECT a performance of “The Lorax” from Bedford Elementary students, community panel discussion on honesty in the workplace, and storytelling and poetry; ORDER-SAFETY-SECURITY demonstration by Bedford Sherriff’s Department K9 Unit, Town of Bedford Police Department obstacle course, Bedford County Social Services.  A full list of scheduled events and participants can be found on the event website – www.BedfordGetTogether.com.
 
“We have been so thankful for the broad support we have gotten this year,” says Bill Mosley, chair of the Bedford Get Together executive committee.  “Through the generosity of a multitude of volunteers, supporters, and sponsors, we are able to support the work of those in our community who are striving to bring folks together.  This is truly a grassroots community organization.”  Financial and in kind sponsors of the Bedford Get Together include:  Bays Trash Removal, Bedford Community Health Foundation, Bower Center for the Arts, Sara Braaten, Elizabeth Brown and James Waring, Cathey Burks, Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital, Dominion of Bedford, Goose Creek Studio,  Ivan Greene, Caroline Khella-Hope, Ellen Mackey, Tony and Patsy Martin, Gin McCabe and Jim Towner, Meriwether Godsey, Bill and Beth Mosley, Karen Nuzzo and Jim Jones, Retail Merchants Association (in memory of Quincy Plattus), Wendy and Ted Rowden, Katy Shea, Southern Flavoring, St. John’s Episcopal Church (in memory of Quincy Plattus), and Julie Stanley.
 
The entrance to the Bedford Get Together will be from the Liberty Street side (adjacent to the school bus garage).  Onsite parking behind Bedford Science and Technology Center and parking shuttles will be available.  Bedford Parks and Recreation will be providing shuttle service from apartment complexes on Blue Ridge Avenue.  A map, directions and a detailed shuttle schedule is on the event website – www.BedfordGetTogether.com.  In the event of inclement weather, the Bedford Get Together will be cancelled.
