Calling All Artists for Masquerade Art Show

The Bower Center for the Arts invites artists of all ages to submit their work for participation in the upcoming Masquerade Art Show. The show will take place from March 24 - April 24, 2021. Two divisions will be offered including a Youth Division, age 6 – 18 and an Adult Division, age 18+.

A masquerade, by definition, is a social gathering of people wearing masks and often fantastic costumes or an action that is mere disguise. Masks can conceal, reveal, protect, camouflage, terrify, delight, and mystify us. There are culturally diverse masks such as Hawaiian, Polynesian, African, Native American, Asian, and those worn at Carnival and Mardi Gras. Many masks are very elaborate such as Venetian ones and others may look like animal faces or just be colorful and fun.

What will your mask make us feel? Whether you work in 2-D or 3-D it is time to have some fun! Your piece can be a 3-D mask or 2-D artwork showing a party or parade in full swing or a still life of masks, let your imagination go wild! Examples of media include drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, mosaics, clay, photography, fabric, metal, wood, sculpture, and other media to create your piece.

The entry deadline is March 10, 2021. Calls for Artists and entry forms for both the youth and adult division may be completed online at or picked up at the Bower Center. Bedford County students may also check with their school for entries. Adults, please refer to the Call for Artist for more specific details regarding your eligibility.
